Ordering

How do I commission a portrait?

Fill in the commission form with a photograph and a few words about your companion. You can also send us a DM on Instagram or call us. We reply within 3–5 business days.

What kind of photo do you need?

One clear, well-lit photo where you can see your companion’s eyes and face. Natural daylight works best. Send the original file rather than a screenshot. You can upload up to 3 photos, and we’ll help you choose. See our photo tips.

My companion has passed away. Can you still make a portrait?

Yes. Memorial portraits are among the most meaningful pieces we make, and we can work from older or lower-quality photos.

Can you include two pets in one portrait?

Yes. Two companions in one portrait is $5,000. If you’d prefer two separate portraits, you save $1,000.

Which animals can you portray?

Any animal you love: dogs, cats, horses, birds and more.

Can I give a portrait as a gift?

Yes. A gift certificate lets the person you love choose the photograph and share their companion’s story when they’re ready.

Price and payment

How much does a portrait cost?

$3,000 for one companion in the signature 26 × 26 in size, and $5,000 for two companions in one portrait. Two separate portraits save you $1,000. Shipping is included worldwide, and larger sizes can be curated on request.

How do I pay?

By bank transfer, Zelle or crypto. Full payment is made before work on your portrait begins.

Can I pay by card?

Not at the moment. You can pay by bank transfer (from anywhere in the world), Zelle (for US bank accounts) or crypto. We’ll send you the details once your portrait is confirmed.

Does my portrait support a cause?

Yes. 10% of every sale goes to the Enabling the Disabled Foundation, founded by David in 2022 to support families of children with special needs.

The process

How long does it take?

Each portrait takes 2 to 4 weeks of handwork, then 3–5 working days to ship. Most portraits arrive in about 5 weeks.

Can I see it before the silk work begins?

Yes. Your companion is first drawn onto canvas and sent to you for approval, with up to 2 rounds of changes. Threading starts once you approve the sketch.

Will I see progress?

Yes. We send updates at the beginning, middle and end of the work, by WhatsApp or email, so you can watch your companion appear.

Who makes the portrait?

David Kofi Boateng himself, by hand, in his studio in Accra, Ghana, using silk sourced in Accra. Meet the artist.

Shipping

Do you ship to my country?

We ship worldwide from our studio in Accra with DHL, and shipping is included in the price. Delivery takes 3–5 working days.

Will I pay import duties or taxes?

Any import duties or taxes are paid by the recipient. So far, our clients have not been charged, but this depends on your country’s rules.

Is it tracked and insured?

Yes. Every portrait is shipped with DHL, fully tracked and insured.

Does it arrive framed?

No. Portraits are sent unframed, so you can choose a frame that suits your home.

Does it come with a certificate?

Yes. Every portrait is signed and archived, and comes with a certificate of authenticity.

Policies and care

Can I cancel or get a refund?

Because every portrait is made by hand for one companion, orders can’t be cancelled or refunded once payment has been made. Your sketch includes up to 2 rounds of changes, so you can be sure before the silk work begins. See our terms.

What if it arrives damaged?

Every shipment is insured. If your portrait arrives damaged, contact us straight away and we’ll handle the claim with DHL.

How do I care for my portrait?

Keep your portrait away from water and avoid humid places, such as bathrooms. Silk lasts for generations with this simple care.
